LED Televisions Have Hit The Market

The latest trend to hit the consumer electronics market is LED Televisions. LED stands for light emitting diode so as the name suggests the television is composed of a large number LEDs which are used to produce a picture on your television screen. This might be a very simplistic explanation of things but this is how the technology works in a nutshell.

The name or term LED Televisions has been widely used by Samsung electronics even though the television is not entirely composed of LEDs and they are not responsible for making up the picture. The job of these LEDs is to produce brighter pictures by giving the LCD panel backlight support. This is how LED Televisions are able to produce such vivid pictures.

There are various types of televisions on the market however the major difference you will see in both conventional LCDs and LED televisions is both in result as well as internal technology. One of the things that will first catch your eye is the television's capability to produce very dark shades of black and other bright colors.

LED Televisions are also extremely slim owing to the edge-LED lighting technology. The current models you see on the market are around an inch think. They are also less power hungry when compared to conventional LCD televisions. Experts believe that they can save as much as 40% more electricity than conventional LCD televisions of a similar size.

There is also a much wider color gamut the television can deal with as compared to regular LCDs. This is especially true in those areas where RGB type backlighting is also used.

There are several methods that are used for backlighting LCD panels. By using either white or RGB (Red, Green and blue) LED arrays which are placed behind the panel. The Edge-LED lighting technology uses white colored LEDs which are arranged around the inside of the frame of the television using a special light diffusion panel which is perfectly designed to spread the rays of light evenly behind the panel.

When you look at the benefits of using LED backlight, its biggest offering to you is it will consume low power. It also produces much brighter pictures as compared to conventional LCDs. There are also many obvious color advantages over conventional LCDs. They produce some of the most awesome pictures which conventional LCDs simply cannot. However it's the price of these televisions which usually keep people from purchasing them.

Various companies produce variations of these technologies. Also every brand of television does their own special thing with their television in order to make it more favourable. In a nutshell though this is what you can expect from these televisions. - 32388
