How to Make The Connection to Surround Sound

By Matt Thames

When you come home with your first HDTV it is an exciting thing to want to hook it up right away so you can use it. The problem is, if you haven't done it before you can get a little bit confused. Here are a few tips though that you can use to make the task go by with ease.

First check your HDTV for the input output ports. These ports are usually located on the front, back, or side of the system. These are the colorful holes on the device. Input cables draw information into a device and output ports send signals from your HDTV to your other components.

Next check your audio amplifiers input / output ports, they are usually on the back. Most offer RCA style connectors, these will do the trick, however they will not provide you with the best sound and video if your system offers the option to hook up using a coaxial cable this would be a better choice. RCA style connectors work well, but they don't offer the best sound quality and are in no way the equivalent of using a coaxial wire to connect to the Digital Audio Output on your television if you are offered this option.

The best connection by far will be provided by connecting your HDTV to your Surround Sound Audio System by using an HDMI cable carries both video and surround sound audio cables all at once. This is your best option if your television has HD capabilities. Keep in mind that if you are trying to combine older components with newer ones you may need purchase adapters for the wires at your local electronics store.

This process really does not need to be a hard one for you at all. Just make sure that you have all of the cables and components that you need and follow these easy steps to get your system hooked up in no time and enjoy it with your family and friends. - 32388
